The greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols appear fine online in news posts and comments, and forum topics and comments. However, they are getting turned into "gibberish" (or rather, "HTML character entities," but it looks like gibberish to most people!) when sent via email. Your greater than and less than signs will look like this when sent via email: "&gt;" and "&lt;"
